Daily Schedule + Boredom busters (supervised and independent activities) for kids!

We have a 3 week break from school here-- and I know many others are in the same situtation. Maybe you love having your kids home, maybe not so much.. but no matter how you feel, I know there can and WILL be moments of frustration, so I'm here to share some helpful resources to create a smooth schedule and keep those kiddos (and mom) busy and happy!

First, we've created a Daily Schedule (I mean, I'm @danasdailys so naturally I need a daily schedule). We have 5 MUST DO items on the checklist that we call our High Five. They are at the top of our list and always get done first--

The schedule then goes on to show how they earn their free time after their High Fives are done (and you can even tell them to pass it off they come and ask for a High Five when they are done! ;)).
On that High Five checklist is Independent play/quiet time, and I've created a HUGE list of independent activities for kids!

Independent Activities for kids:

I am also taking 1 hour each day to do a supervised activity such as: Art, Science, Culture flight, etc. And I have another good list of ideas you can draw on to spend some time teaching and learning with your kids!

Daily Specials-- Ideas and fun ways to teach your kids new and special things!

*CULTURE FLIGHT-- take a flight in your livingroom by setting up pillows and explore a new country. You can learn about:

-Food they eat
-demographics
-capital
-population
-clothing worn
-learn a couple of words or phrases in their language

You can make a passport for them and stamps to glue on whenever they visit a new place!

*COOKING CLUB-- have your kids help you cook a meal.
Other great subscription services are: Raddishkids: https://www.raddishkids.com/ (offering a free kit right now!) or ATK kids-- America's Test Kitchen Kids https://www.americastestkitchen.com/kids/join

*SCIENCE-- do a science project!
Find all things science at: http://www.sciencekids.co.nz/
Websites: mysterydoug.com and kids.nationalgeographic.com

*BOOKS-- use a book to teach something

Some of our favorites are:
Usborne Children's Encyclopedia (kids scan the QR code and a video pops up for each topic!) Baking: There are tons of great baking books I've listed here:
You can also talk about fractions while baking and play some of these fraction games here or do some fraction worksheets found here.
Lego Builders challenge: here is a fun lego book, this is a fun one too! Or just do your own lego building challenge by deciding on something you want to create and then set a time limit and build!
Magic!: Learn some magic tricks together. We love this Usborne Magic book, a couple of other options here and here.

*ART-- we love ART and two of my absolute favorite places to learn to be creative are: Art for Kids Hub and Let's Make Art Kids. Learn to draw or follow a watercoloring tutorial, easy enough for your kids to do with you!

*Memorization-- set a goal to memorize something with you kids
Ideas include:
50 States -- love this book to go along with that! Or try this song.
Capitals -- love this capitals song!
Presidents of the USA -- tons of songs on youtube (you could also study one President and learn fun facts about him)
Scriptures
Poems

*Music Time --
Teach you kids about the piano and how to play a few keys, if you play another instrument, teach them about that. WE LOVE this guitar book from Usborne. I have this drum, you can teach them about beat, tempo, etc. You can sing nursery songs for younger kids, and involve a lot of songs that include hand/finger movements. Look for felt board song ideas here! You can use tons of books to sing along to as well. Some of our favorites are:
Usborne nursery rhyme books
Mother goose book here

Read aloud: Just sitting and reading aloud to your kids can be great
We love reading the Roald Dahl series
We love reading Usborne books
You can buy awesome felt board stories on Amazon here and make sure your kids know the classic stories in a fun way!

Book Reports: We have decided to pick a favorite book, then the kids can use a poster to draw, print pictures, collect facts and share about their books!

Let me know what you think and if you do any of these please share with hasthag #ddhighfive (danas daily high five) or tag me @danasdailys. @danasdailys #danasdailys #danasdailyschedule #ddhighfive
